Experience Tyrol: freedom

Above the clouds, freedom is boundless. A feeling that only the moment matters.

Above the clouds: Nordkette, Tyrol

It is not uncommon for Tyrolean towns and villages to lie under a deep cloud cover or a dense layer of fog in winter. It's cold, gray and desolate. The good news: just a few meters above, the sun is shining under the blue sky.

Since there are cable cars to the mountains everywhere in Tyrol, it is easy to get through the clouds to the sun. A tip: Before you go, search Google for a webcam in the area and see live what the weather is like at the mountain station of the cable car.

This phenomenon is particularly well known at the Seegrube in Innsbruck. The Seegrube station of the Nordkettenbahnen cable car is often only a few meters above the cloud cover. An indescribable experience.

When the cloud or fog layer is higher, the glaciers are a last chance to catch some sun. Depending on where you stay, we recommend the Stubai Glacier, the Hintertux Glacier, the Ötztal Glacier (Rettenbach), the Pitztal Glacier or the Kaunertal Glacier.
