Information regarding Parking Locherboden at the end of the page.
The Maria Locherboden pilgrimage church in Tyrol rises imposingly on the Sassberg, 150 meters above the Inn Valley. The church is part of a popular pilgrimage site with a Way of the Cross, chapel and grotto.
The legend of the origin of the pilgrimage church dates back to 1740, when a mountain boy from the neighboring town of Mötz is said to have been buried during mining work. To thank for his rescue, he erected an image of the Virgin Mary on the mountain. A chapel of grace was built and equipped between 1881 and 1885. The Maria Locherboden pilgrimage church was built from 1896 to 1916.
The church is located in one of the most beautiful areas of Tyrol, opposite the Mieminger Plateau, in the middle of greenery. If you have time, you should drive a few kilometers further after your visit and hike through the breathtaking landscape of the Mieminger Plateau.
info
Directions: From the Inntal motorway (A12) take the Mötz exit (towards Fernpass). Then drive along the Mötzer Landstraße for about 5 minutes until you reach a large car park on the right-hand side (note: this is not the car park of the Gasthof Locherboden, but 300 meters further on to the next car park). Coming from the other direction, drive down the Mötzer Landstraße from the Mieminger Plateau for about 5 minutes until you see the car park on the left-hand side.
Parking: The official car park is at the foot of the church hill, from where the church can be reached in 10 minutes on foot. This path leads to another car park, which is closer to the church, but is only open to churchgoers and people with walking difficulties. From the 2nd car park to the church it is about 100 m uphill.
