If you only have a few hours to get to know Innsbruck, here is a brief overview so you can make good use of your time.
A walk through Innsbruck's old town is a must. Here you can take photos and selfies of or with the world-famous Golden Roof. If you have the time and desire to climb a few steps, you can climb the city tower on the square in front of the Golden Roof. From the tower you have the best view over Innsbruck. A tip: Instead of visiting the classic tourist souvenir shops at the Golden Roof, there are some good shops with authentic Tyrolean products in the side streets.
We continue from the old town directly to Maria-Theresien-Straße, which is largely a pedestrian zone. Time for another photo or selfie in front of the Annasäule column. At the end of the famous Maria-Theresien-Strasse is the Triumphal Arch (=Triumphpforte).
You should also visit the market square and the old Inn bridge. From here there is another must-see photo of the historic house facades with the Inn river in the foreground and the imposing Nordkette mountains in the background.
For those who have more time, we recommend the following excursion destinations in the immediate vicinity of the city: Schloss Ambras Castle, Seegrube (can be reached directly from the city with the Hungerburgbahn + Nordkettenbahn), Tirol Panorama Museum with the famous giant panoramic painting and the Bergisel ski jump with panoramic views over Innsbruck. The Tirol Panorama Museum and the Bergisel ski jump are practically next to each other.
