Freundsberg Castle was built in 1150 and is impressive due to its good state of preservation. The castle church next to the castle was built in the 17th century. Freundsberg Castle is located directly above the town of Schwaz and is a visual feature of the region.
The castle was founded by the Lords of Freundsberg and had prominent owners, including Archduke Sigismund den Münzreichen (=the Rich in Coins). In the 19th century it came into the possession of the city of Schwaz.
The castle is located about 150 meters above the town of Schwaz and can be viewed from the outside at any time. There are a few parking spaces available. The interesting museum and a guest house in the castle have specific opening hours; more information is available at +43524265129. The small, well-kept castle complex is worth a visit just for the view over Schwaz and the Inn Valley with the mountains in the background. One tip is to combine the visit with a hike. A popular hiking trail starts right next to the castle.

How to get there: The castle is located directly above Schwaz, but it is not easy to reach it by car, as you have to find your way through a labyrinth of alleys. If you don't know Schwaz, you should have a GPS with you. Also, there is a "wrong way" that goes over a dirt road. So if you end up on the dirt road, turn around because you're wrong. The right way leads through the Burggasse alley. There is parking on site.
