Stams Abbey is one of the most important monasteries in Austria. It was founded in 1273 as a family foundation of the Counts of G\u00f6rtz Tirol. The museum is closed in winter and the interior of the abbey cannot be visited. However, a visit to see the impressive building from the outside is still worthwhile. Stams Abbey, picturesquely situated in the Inn Valley, impresses with its baroque architecture and the striking onion domes of the abbey church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today's monastery was rebuilt in the 17th century after a number of destructions (a fire, looting, damage from the Peasants' War) and completely renovated at the beginning of the 21st century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The magnificent monastery garden is particularly worth seeing and is worth a visit even in winter. In summer, the museum with valuable works of art, historical manuscripts and sacred treasures can be visited. Today, the monastery is a lively place of faith and serves as a spiritual center with an attached school. The monastery church of the Assumption of Mary is also particularly well-known and, with its artistic interior, is one of the most beautiful churches in Tyrol. Concerts are held here regularly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
