Stams Abbey is one of the most important monasteries in Austria. It was founded in 1273 as a family foundation of the Counts of G\u00f6rtz Tyrol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today's monastery was rebuilt in the 17th century after a number of destructions (a fire, looting, damage from the Peasants' War) and completely renovated at the beginning of the 21st century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stams Abbey is not only an important religious centre, but also an architectural jewel of Tyrol. In addition to the artistic onion domes, the baroque interior of the Abbey Church of the Assumption of Mary is impressive with frescoes and magnificent altars. The Bernardisaal, which is considered to be one of the most beautiful baroque rooms in the monastery, is particularly worth seeing. The Abbey Garden with its peaceful atmosphere invites you to linger and enjoy. The Abbey is also known for its musical events, including church concerts and choir performances, which regularly take place in the impressive acoustics of the Abbey Church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
