Schrofenstein Castle is a ruined castle in Stanz near Landeck. It is a former rock castle. It was used to monitor the trade route to the Vinschgau, over the Arlberg mountain and the Fern Pass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The castle ruins are located on a rocky outcrop at 1,122 m above sea level. A relatively flat hiking trail leads from Stanz bei Landeck in an easterly direction to the castle. However, there are only a few parking options in Stanz. Alternatively, the car can be parked in Landeck, see hiking routes in the link below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Schrofenstein Castle dates back to the 13th century and has been mentioned in documents since 1228. In the second half of the 13th century the castle was the seat of the court. Over the centuries it changed hands several times and was also besieged. Today it is privately owned and can only be viewed from the outside. For a ruin it is relatively well preserved. The view over the Inn Valley is particularly impressive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hike to Schrofenstein Castle offers not only a historical experience but also a wonderful view of the surrounding mountains and the Inn Valley. The route is particularly popular with hikers and nature lovers in autumn, when the leaves turn brightly coloured. The ruins themselves are surrounded by dense vegetation and offer numerous photo opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Directions: If possible by car to Stanz bei Landeck, there are only a few parking spaces in Stanz. Alternatively, you can walk from Landeck or take a taxi from Landeck to Stanz. There is also a train station in Landeck for those arriving by train.
